Leading UK Electronics Manufacturing Service Provider (EMS), SMS – Smart Made Simple, recently closed their financial reporting, signifying an end to the six-month reporting schedule, and are delighted to announce a 30% increase in revenue from this point in Financial Year 2017.
Headquartered in Nottingham, UK, touching innovation, expertise and experience, SMS – Smart Made Simple has made several investments in talent, technology and intelligence to secure their place as partner of choice for UK electronics manufacturing, supply chain solutions and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA).
Their calendar year 2016 – 2017 investments have significantly paid off, as they report a 30% increase in revenue, compared to their financial reporting at this point last year. Their growth and positivity don’t end there, they currently also sit ahead of their financial forecasting budget for 2017/2018.
At a time where the country and industry has remained slightly conservative as the impact of Brexit remains uncertain, SMS – Smart Made Simple have not felt any detrimental effect on their current business climate. This staggering growth is a mix of new business from new customers to SMS – Smart Made Simple, and an increase in production volumes from their existing and extremely loyal current customer base.
Their operating performance figures indicate that a significant portion of this increase in revenue can be aligned to their investment in New Product Introduction and Prototyping equipment, creating a dedicated Developmental Centre within their current electronic manufacturing environment. In 2017 the company acquired the Mycronic MY600 Jet Printer and the Mycronic MY200SX Placement for state-of-the-art development, and through these investments, they have been able to address and close the gap between technology advancements and their capability.
In 2017, Craig Taylor, CFO of SMS – Smart Made Simple, stated that the UK electronics manufacturing fulfilment model had changed from build-to-print, through to a consultative approach due to the demand for lower volume manufacturing with complex configuration, or customised integration. The drive-in demand for NPI and prototyping fits perfectly into the sweet spot of SMS’ – Smart Made Simple, capability roadmap, as they can accommodate lower volume/high mix through their dedicated Development Centre, whilst continuing to support the customer as they scale by having three surface mount lines.
The speed of performance is essential within NPI, and equipment like the technology SMS – Smart Made Simple has invested in, is making the whole design and development process more efficient. One example is the removal of stencils as the company’s printer has INKJET built in. Small steps like this, increase productivity, which in turn increases yield.
To promote their competence, another facet to their growth can be contributed to the fact that during 2017 SMS – Smart Made Simple, opened their doors to host various events of interest to mechanical and electronic design engineers, design houses and universities. Being situated in Nottingham, UK, SMS – Smart Made Simple is in a fortunate geographical position, with high calibre academic establishments such as Nottingham, Loughborough, Manchester and, of course, they feel a pull from Cambridge and Oxford, as they can offer a lower cost manufacturing solution than some London based EMS providers.
Universities such as Loughborough offer wonderful and very respected engineering and manufacturing courses, with product design and patents which stem from these educational establishments. SMS – Smart Made Simple, works in close collaboration with academia to offer their services as a manufacturing arm, often operating as a product realisation centre for student’s innovative designs.
“We enjoy this type of collaboration as we see it as nurturing the minds and product innovation today, for tomorrow’s world.” Craig Taylor, CFO, SMS – Smart Made Simple stated.
